Facial Écorché Sculpture

Sculpting Wax, Oil Paint ⋮ 2024

This head sculpture was created based off the study of facial anatomy and visualizes a skull fracture and superficial injuries usually seen in road traffic accidents.

Starting out with a plastic skull, different layers were built up and textured, being periodically checked for anatomical accuracy. Paint was added once all the sculpting was finished.

Notable anatomical structures include: thyroid cartilage, parotid and sublingual glands, and facial arteries.
Road traffic accident characteristics include: frontal skull fracture (orbicularis oculi cut to help highlight), swelling around the eye, and bruising on the front and back of head (skin layer).

The finished sculpture was also scanned using an Artec Spider and uploaded to Sketchfab.
